King Charles I school is a co-educational school and sixth form centre located in Kidderminster with over 1,000 students aged between 11 and 18. The school was founded in the 16th century and was granted its royal charter in 1636 by King Charles I, and is the only secondary school in England to bear his name.
Criteria
Orbik were approached in early 2019 to upgrade the emergency lighting throughout the school. Our main aim was to provide a safe environment for staff and pupils, as well as reducing maintenance and energy consumption.
The Project
All areas of the school now feature our fully recessed and surface mounted Dyode emergency luminaires in standard and high output variations. The Dyode's advanced refractor lens is available in open area and corridor versions, ensuring that optimum light output and distribution is achieved in all emergency applications.
The Odet is a robust, low maintenance high output emergency twin-spot and has been installed in areas with higher ceilings. The swivel and tilt heads facilitate precise light control to maximise light output and reduce the amount of luminaires required. Equipped with maintenance-free, 5 year life sealed lead acid batteries, the Odet has proved to be ideal for areas where access is restricted.
Neath linear LED luminaires have been installed in the music room to provide excellent light output, illuminance uniformity and glare control, transforming the area into a bright and vibrant space in which to learn.
The Oldfield Hall corridor mains and emergency lighting is now provided by surface mounted Leah luminaires fitted with a wide trim. The trim not only gives the luminaire an elegant appearance, but it also creates an impressive diffused halo effect resulting in visually interesting space.
Escape route lighting and signage throughout the project is now provided by our Eden bulkhead and Chella, Dalby and Paloma exit signs.
