About Perferm Technology
Lamp manufacturers are committed to reducing or eliminating the mercury used in fluorescent lamps to lessen the impact on the environment when these lamps require disposal at the end of their usable life. These actions are being driven in Europe by the WEEE and RoHS directives, which impose ever lower levels of the potentially hazardous mercury used in lamps.
To help combat some of the problems introduced by these lower mercury levels, including severely reduced life and blackening of the lamp cathodes in fluorescent lamps, Perferm™ modules employ enhanced lamp striking technology combined with a high level of continuous lamp cathode heating throughout the emergency operation period.
Perferm™ conversion modules are available in various formats to give the end user cost-effective performance and flexibility dependent on the type of mains control gear employed in their luminaires.
The switched supply delay relay within PLR and PHR modules ensure that electronic ballasts have time to reset and will never encounter the “no lamp” condition that can occur when a keyswitch is used to remove only the permanent main feed to the emergency luminaire during testing. Electronic ballasts can ‘lock out’ under these conditions and may require their mains supply to be disconnected for a short period to reset the lamp failure circuitry.
Very Low Mercury Lamp Range
With the increased concern regarding the impact of mercury on the environment, the lighting industry is constantly reducing the amount of mercury in fluorescent lamps. Orbik have developed a range of products (PLRM and PHRM) specifically aimed at these types of fluorescent lamps.

Perferm™ technology is an ongoing development involving the latest lamp technology and as such is subject to change as and when further lamps/data become available
We strongly recommend that modules incorporating Perferm™ technology are used in emergency luminaires and conversions to provide the ultimate future proofing against lamp evolution
Most modules and PCB’s are tested and approved to EN61347-2-7. They are EMC compliant to EN55015, CE marked where applicable and carry the British Standard Kitemark
They incorporate over-temperature and charger short circuit protection
Mains supply 230V - 6% + 10% 50/60Hz (other supply Voltages are available to order)
Output circuitry uses a high efficiency sinusoidal inverter, with a nominal operating current of 1.1A
Available as standard in 3 hour operation (other durations are available to order)
All modules have battery over-discharge protection as standard (DDP) to prevent discharge below 1 Volt per cell
Reverse battery polarity protected
All connections are via terminal blocks (supplied with a green LED to indicate charging conditions)
