Fire safety in the UK is governed by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 in England and Wales and The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005. Part 3 of the act specifies who has responsibility for fire safety in non-domestic premises in Scotland and Part 3 of the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 came into effect on the 15th November 2010.

Organisations have a legal duty to undertake a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment of their premises. This assessment is a detailed report of the fire risk in your building, the adequacy of existing fire precautions and the need for any additional fire precautions.
